A new Christmas song from Jon Anderson, just in time for the holidays! He requested a cover design featuring a robin wearing a scarf amongst falling snow. Buy it on iTunes!

CD cover: Treatise
Treatise, a classically-inspired electronic music artist, requested a cover image that would match their album title: "The Glassy Essence". I combined and manipulated several images to create a light, airy city of glass cubes.
CD cover: Inanna
Cover for dance/electronica artist Inanna. She requested gold-tone lettering with a rainbow accent over a red patterned background.

CD cover: Atomic Panchos
The Atomic Panchos came to me with their album cover concept: Pancho Villa dressed like Elvis, standing in front of a nuclear blast. Oh, and bandoliers and pistolas intertwined with the logo. Can do!
CD cover: RvR
Rock musician RvR came to me with a very clear concept for his album cover: a translucent blue human torso sliced in segments corresponding with the frets on a guitar.
CD cover: Janis Ian
Folk legend Janis Ian wanted a simple design for her new single protesting anti-same-sex marriage laws: a pride flag with the title. No problem!

Jon Anderson: "Music is God" single
Jon Anderson asked me to do the cover of his new single, Music is God; since he's on tour in Europe and a cover photo was needed immediately, the only image available was a screencapture from the YouTube video linked above. I used Photoshop to paint over the image and used colorful type to echo the happy vibe of the tune. Jon Anderson: "Perfect... it's got a universal energy!"

Jon Anderson - Zamran logos
I've been incredibly excited lately to work with Jon Anderson -- lead singer of Yes -- on design work and concepts for an upcoming single, album, and a larger project that's still taking shape. The central character in much of this is Zamran, the Son of Olias (it's a long story), and these are some of the logos I've done for him. More to come...
CD cover: KIllian Wells
Killian asked for a very 80s-style image for his EP, "V.I.P.". Doing period-specific designs like this is a blast, even if they make people cover their eyes and say, "Agh!! That pink!!" Oh, the 80s rocked.
CD cover: Brewsky
This musician asked for a very specific image for their single, "Smoking Hookah". They sent the background image, a typography sample to match, as well as a hookah image, and asked for a cobra to be emerging from the hookah to create the "S" in the word "Smoking". I composited the image to order and added the smoke.

CD cover: OBEY
Obey the Altar Native asked for an album cover inspired by their favorite designer toy store, Red Hot Robot. This is the end result, and yes, the Japanese does say "Red Hot Robot!!" (thanks to Justin for the translation). Original robot illustration by Simon Oxley.

CD cover: E-MAN
Hip-hop artist E-Man asked me to find an image that'd fit the old-school vibe of his single. This mural fading to black & white really fit the groove. I especially like the "talking doggie hand" graffiti on the wall.

CD cover: Porscha Parker (single)
After doing an album cover for Porscha Parker, I was asked to also do the cover for her debut DVD/CD single for the song P.E.A.C.E.

CD cover: Joe Tran / Acustika
This client had a very interesting idea: they wanted to see an old book that looked like it'd been found buried in the sand on a beach. It had to have a touch of tropical-island flair to it but not look tiki/corny. Here's the end result, which they were really happy with, saying it was exactly what they'd imagined.

This was a fun challenge... to create an album cover for a single based on the idea of an URGE. It had to be sexy without being at all explicit. I tried many different directions for the cover until the idea of a closeup of these lips came up, and it worked really well.

CD cover: Noel Harrison
I was asked to do the album cover for an upcoming single by Noel Harrison (best known for the Oscar-winning song Windmills of Your Mind from The Thomas Crown Affair). He requested a phoenix rising from the cinders of a heart burnt to ash, with a vision of Avalon seen from behind the phoenix. His response to this design: "Glorious! Now I'll have to write 11 more tunes and make an album of it..."

CD cover: Camie
This electronic duo came to me with a very clear concept in mind: they wanted to be portrayed as a mystical creature and fairy in a magic Japanese forest, surrounded by a chihuahua, a Japanese schoolgirl, and an old Japanese man peeking out from the bamboo. At first, I was tempted to say "no way... it'll take way too long". But the idea was so fun that I just had to put it together for them.
It took awhile to find the images, and even longer to composite everything together... the forest, the lion (plus wings), the fairy, the dog... the old man is a photo I shot in Tokyo a few years ago...
They were very happy with the end product (which they also asked me to come up with an album title to match). It was certainly worth the effort.

CD package: Margot
After I did their digital album cover, the Italian prog group Margot asked for a full CD package with the same concept as the cover. I figured if I was going to pay homage to Roger Dean and Storm Thorgerson on their cover, I may as well go all out on the rest of the package, too, so I put together a Hipgnosis-style cryptic story told in images.
The cover shows a strange post-apocalyptic field with ancient TVs picking up old broadcast signals.
How'd they get there? Well, inside we first see some scientists carrying TVs out into the field...
They place them and test for broadcast signals. To pick up the ancient broadcasts, they need to be in a spot without trees or buildings to interfere... thus the big empty field.
Now that the old TVs are working, the researchers ask their impressionable test subject to turn them on. Good thing she finds an old broadcast of Margot videos.
